is that it's a deceptive kind of thing.....its creeps in and out, and it often sneaks up on you just when you think you have the best of it. And its not always obvious either. If you struggle with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or any combination of those three—you know what I mean. That slide backwards, those ten steps back, they look different for everyone.
For me its waking up reluctant to get out of bed, or the negative messages poking their way into my psyche telling me its pointless to go to the gym, run errands, or go out with friends. In fact, on some days the few steps it takes to get from the bed to the bathroom just to wash up, comb your hair, and get dressed are overwhelming.
....But how each one of us deals with it is also different. If you have been at it for a while, battled the monster long enough, you already know the consequences of listening to those messages, or staying in bed. You've learned a few coping skills, remembered that part of winning the battle against yourself is to just ignore and do the things you are telling yourself not to do. That sunlight is good. Music and good weather is even better. Maybe nature is your thing. That not everyone around you in the gym is feeling peachy either, and that the person next to you could be fighting the very same demons you are.
You have your plan in place. You know when its time to make that call to the doc. The moment you realize that your efforts aren't getting the job done and you are growing weary.
And there is nothing wrong with that---calling in reinforcements. Picking up the phone. Calling friends. Calling family. Calling your doctor.
Because not even the best of us, the most experienced, or even the strongest among us can beat this monster alone.
So just do it. Ask for help.
